Problem Based Learning “From the Wright Brothers to Mars” Crossroads Elementary Science St. Paul, MN

Throughout history, humankind has been compelled to inquire. This unique aspect of the human condition has led us from the Wright Brothers’ first ventures to anticipation of landing on Mars. Scenario

Crossroads Elementary Science has created an Inquiry Zone to foster and encourage student inquiry.

The Inquiry Zone In response to this scenario, “Centennial of Flight” work stations will be developed and offered for our students throughout the year.

Inquiry Zone Work Stations – Design Issues: Propulsion Manuverability Human Fragility Maintaining loft Sturdiness

Inquiry Zone Work Stations – Early plane development (Wright Brothers) – Model plane – Paper airplane – Principles of flight computer model

Inquiry Zone Work Stations – Rocket models – Video of Mars mission – Landing on Mars challenge

Design issues have been a constant throughout human encounters with flight. New challenges remain.
