Gang Assessment Look for Graffiti –Walls, halls, restrooms Look at book bags and notebooks Check school yearbooks Look at student clothing and accessories Has there been an increase in weapon violation or assaults Has there been an increase in drug activity

Now what do we do? Examine Policies –Revise old policies –Add new policies (gang, metal detectors, searches, etc.) Train staff on awareness issues Conduct a gang assessment –Visual Inspection Document findings (graffiti, notebooks, colors, etc.) Construct an anonymous reporting system for students
Now what do we do? Develop a Police liaison –Place, parking sign –Establish a police workstation inside school Assess the need for physical security needs –Cameras, signs, etc. Measure success
