9 Statement of Responsibilities Be sure it is up-to-date Used by review committee members to check against Data Summary Do you have Criterion I changes? –May need separate statements –Use start and end dates –Use percentages (if applicable)

11 What are Criteria I-IV? I. Professional Competence and Quality of Service within the Library Example: Chair, Library Committee on Diversity, 2001/2002 II. Professional Activity Outside the Library Example: ALA, ACRL Institute for Information Literacy, Advisory Group, Memberships, SCTPG, etc. III. University and Public Service Example: LAUC-LA Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect IV. Research and Other Creative Activity Example: Web Search Tools vs. Databases

12 Statement of Professional Achievements (SOPA) Use to explicate items on your Data Summary Elaborate on activities Focus on achievements Include professional goals –Goals should be clearly stated at the end of the SOPA Put the SOPA after your Data Summary

13 Goals Be realistic –Be able to accomplish goals in the timeframe Enhance professional development –Attend classes or workshops, conferences –Follow your interests Measurable –E.g., completed product, completed course, publications, etc. Discuss previous and new goals with your RI. Update as needed!

14 Evaluation/Recommendation Statement This statement is written by the RI Set up a meeting with your RI –Provide a list of Criteria I-IV activities to your RI –Assessment of previous goals –Create new goals Prior to evaluation/recommendation statement meeting, provide RI with a list of your most important Criterion 1 activities and accomplishments during the review period, whether or not requested.

15 Supporting Documentation Required for promotions and accelerations Examples: –Letters from faculty, administrators, peers –Publications, including Web pages for which you are responsible –Unpublished texts –Student evaluations Along with names of referees, include a brief description of the specific accomplishment or contribution you would like the person to address in their letter of reference.

16 Tips to Improve Your Packet  Don’t procrastinate  Keep track of activities throughout the review period  Define acronyms  Organize documentation  Refer to documentation  PROOFREAD!!!
