GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES 3 3 Graduate and Professional Education Texas A&M offers three types of graduate and professional degrees: 1. Master’s degree program – Non-thesis option  Professional master’s programs (such as MBA, MARCH, MBIOT, MUP, etc.)  May be led by a Program Director and/or the Department Graduate Advisor  Advisory Committee o May be one standing committee for all students composed of the same faculty members, or o Only a committee chair 2. Doctoral degree programs (PhD, DE, EdD, Dr. Ph) Master’s degree program – Thesis option  Advisory committee: committee chair, 2-3 faculty members 3. First Professional Doctoral degree programs (MD, DDS, JD, DVM, PharmD)

GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES 7 7 Office Descriptions Office of Admissions-This office works with departments and programs to facilitate admissions decisions at the graduate level. ISS (International Student Services)- This office works to facilitate the international student's transition to life in the United States and at Texas A&M, promote interactions between the US and international populations and provide services necessary to meet the special needs of international students. ______________________________________________________________ Office of the Registrar-This office oversees registration. In addition, they maintain the official academic calendar, academic records, and official transcripts. Student Business Services- This office maintains student accounts and billing. SBS assists students with loan and debt management. DARS (Data and Research Services)-This office works to “[improve] education through evaluation and assessment”. They administer a variety of tests and surveys for TAMU, including the English Language Proficiency Exam. Scholarships & Financial Aid- This office tracks and coordinates all financial awards, including, but not limited to, grants, loans, waivers, work-study and on-campus student employment.

GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES 8 8 Office Descriptions Libraries- The library provides the academic community access to printed and electronic books, articles, media, scholarly journals and academic databases. The library also provides students access to technological resources. University Writing Center- This office provides services to help students improve writing and public speaking skills. Students may use their services for projects of any size. Student Affairs-This division, comprised of numerous diverse departments, provides services and support for the non- academic experience during students’ graduate careers. Some departments/offices include the GLBT Resource Center, Multicultural Services, Recreational Sports, Student Counseling Center, Memorial Student Center, Student Activities and Student Health Services. Center for Teaching Excellence – This office provides opportunities for professional development in teaching and also oversees the Teaching Assistant Institute (TAI). Career Center- This office provides current and former students access to information about career opportunities. The Career Center also prepares students for their transition from academia to their career. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Association of Former Students- AFS encourages alumni to stay connected with Texas A&M and provides a number of activities to foster the relationship between Texas A&M and our students. AFS uses its fundraising activities to support quality education at Texas A&M.
