UEFA Champions League is the most popular European club tournament which is played every year. 22 clubs won this tournament and 12 clubs won it more than once. The Spanish club “Real Madrid” was the winner 9 times

It was founded in 1955 by advice of French sport journalist of “L`Equipe” magazine Gabriel Hanot (in the picture) At first this tournament was played in and it was called European Champions cup until Then it was called Amstel Champions League and next year after changes of tournament`s system it received its last name.

Every year some Russian clubs take part in Champions League but they seldom have good results. For example this year Russia was introduced by two clubs: Spartak Moscow and Zenit St-Petersburg. They are two popular clubs with a lot of money but these clubs failed in first matches. Why did it happen?

This is quite a difficult question and nobody knows true answer. Russian top-clubs are rich and have good players. But in my opinion it is not enough because coaches often use a lot of foreign footballers and don`t give chances to young players. So they don`t receive experience and can`t play in such a difficult competition. Spartak and Zenit have some promising young players. Artem Dzyuba Maxim Kanunnikov

There are examples of the best clubs which have a lot of young players and give them chances to take part in an important competition. We know some gifted young players which became leaders of their teams. Lionel Messi is the best example. Now he is 25 and he is the best footballer of the world. His debut for Barcelona first-team was on the 17 th of November, 2003.
