Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles of the British East India Company. In 1867 Singapore became a British Crown Colony. The harbor is a very strategic place, and there was British army. However, the port was captured during the Second World War by the Japanese. But at the end of the war the British won the island back. Singapore was admitted to the Malaysian Federation in 1963 but exited in 1965 and still remains an independent republic. The head of the state is a President. Legislative power lies with Parliament, which has 81 members.

Singapore is situated on an island which is separated from the Malaysian peninsula by a narrow strait. The climate throughout the year as a warm and humid. On this island there are very nice beaches and lots of natural reservations.

Most people live in public residential areas that often provide amenities including swimming pools, outdoor basketball courts as well as indoor sport centres which provide facilities for badminton, squash, table tennis, American football, gymnastics, indoor basketball and volleyball, among others.
