HOBBES LOCKE DEBATE

BELLWORK Please take out your Graphic Organizers from Tuesday. Take a couple of minutes to discuss with your groups and complete the first page of the Graphic Organizer.

STEP 1: GATHERING EVIDENCE In your groups, you have two sets of documents. A and B students will read the Yellow Documents (pro-Hobbes), C and D students will read the Green Documents (pro-Locke). As you read, take notes on each document in the space provided. Try to gather evidence from each document that supports your assigned philosopher’s argument.

STEP 2: SHARING EVIDENCE/SEEING THE OTHER PERSPECTIVE Share your 3-4 documents with the rest of your group. As you learn about the other perspective/philosopher, take notes on your graphic organizer.

STEP 3: FORMING OPINIONS Using your notes on both sides of the debate, take time to form an opinion. Respond to the writing prompt and be prepared to share your opinions with the class.
