Fluorite 11A Harriet

Chemical Formula CaF2 (Calcium fluoride)

Fluorite

Properties Colour: Fluorite occurs in all colors, including colorless, white, purple, blue, red, pink, orange, yellow, brown, green, gray, and black. May also be multicolored and banded. Streak: White Hardness:4 (can use a steel knife to cut) Cleavage: perfect in 4 directions forming octahedrons. Magnetism: NO Effervescence: It can react with acids, when it is heating. Luster: Vitreous [Looks like Glasses]

Common Use Characteristic decides its uses Various Colour—— Jewels, Lapidary Reduce light dispersion —— Window material for both infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths Fluorite elements allow high-resolution images of astronomical objects at high magnifications—— Telescopes A uniquely high transparency at 57 nanometers —— Exposure tools for the semiconductor industry

Where is Fluorite? Fluorite is found in various parts of the world. It has been found in England, Germany, South Africa, Mongolia, France, Russia, Norway, Canada, China and Mexico. It can also be found in the in the following U.S. states: Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Kentucky and Illinois.

How does Fluorite form? Fluorite forms near or around hot water and Hot Springs. Fluorite can form with many different, and various metallic ores, such as lead and silver, or it can form on its own. It forms in small quantities, which are known as Gangue Minerals.
