No 12 1 st April 2010 Dear Parents/ Carers It is the end of another long term and both children and staff have worked very hard. The children’s conduct and behaviour has been very good and we have been very proud of them. Years five and six went on a visit this week to Coventry City Centre and whilst on public transport and on the visit itself they were a credit to our school. Well done to all. Easter Bonnets and Eggs As usual we had a cracking good time and as usual my attempts at jokes are very poor! The standard of the eggs and bonnets was very high and we were all really impressed with how artistic our children and parents are! Below are the winners of all the prizes. Thank you to all who entered. All the prizes were supplied by Wendy Hoffman and Hayley Chapman as a result of their sponsored slim! Thanks to both for thinking of us. Friends of Whitley Abbey The Friends are really struggling for support. Could you help? Meetings are held here in school over a coffee or cup of tea! The AGM is on Thursday 22 nd April at 3pm. Please come along and lend your support to the group, they are working for the benefit of all the children in school. Some have been members for ages and have put loads of time and effort into supporting us through thick and thin but we do need additional support. Please help.

Yours sincerely Mrs N A Starritt Head Teacher New Abbey Oaks Session from September 2010 Our Wraparound Service has become increasingly popular over the last year, however we have been approached by some parents to see if it is possible for children to be dropped prior to 8am due to their work shifts. In light of this and to offer our morning service to other parents we are introducing a new session from September We will still continue with our 8am-8.45am session at a cost of £3.00 but we will introduce a session of am at a cost of £3.50. If you are a parent who currently does not utilise our service and this would be of interest to you please contact Mrs McGrath in the school office or a member of the Abbey Oaks team. Main School Gates We have been approached by the Head teacher of Alice Stevens School to seek our cooperation in keeping the main entrance gates closed at break and lunchtimes. They will not be locked so that school will still be accessible during these times. Pedestrian access will be through the small gate. The children at Alice Stevens are vulnerable as they have no other fencing with which to keep out the general public and so we have agreed to this procedure. They will be providing additional supervisory staff in order to police the situation and to open the gates for deliveries. Thank you for your cooperation in this. New Classroom We are hoping that during the holiday that some brick and steel work will be done so that progress can be seen. At the moment it looks like the World War trenches out at the back- thick mud and not much else. The younger children are fascinated by the machines and love to watch what is going on. I will keep you up to date as the project unfolds.
