Presentation transcript:

The image of Ellie Goulding on the front cover was chosen to convey the theme of her album, which was “Lights”. The fact that her hair is covered with light, her eyes are twinkling, her makeup is simplistic and that her focus is not facing the camera but on the lights, show that the lights are the main focus. Having this theme of light portrays Ellie Goulding as a vibrant “Electropop” artist, depicts the bubbly energy throughout her album. By making her image simplistic, it provides the positive connotation of innocence and purity. This is shown through the colour gold, which portrays wealth and power.

The display of the name of the artist and the name of the album is written in an aluminous font, the artist’s name is a bigger font size than the album title, emphasising the importance of Ellie Goulding’s name. Again, the font conveys the theme of “Lights” and it enhances the energy of her music. It also represents her youth, which appeals to her younger target audience. The colour gold that is used connotes the sense of power, but also of fantasy, a convention of her “Pop” genre.

On the back cover there is a track list of ten songs. Each song is portrayed in the same font as the front cover. This allows the audience to establish a relationship between the front and back covers as well as to recognise the significance of “Lights”, making her Digipak very illustrative. The gold colour contrasts the dark background, depicting the sense that there is always light where ever you go. Having this believe provides a positive connotation to Ellie Goulding’s music. Also, the font is eye-catching and it fits with the branding of the artist.

The CD of her album again follows the theme of “Lights” by displaying the artist’s name and album title in the same format as it is on the cover. Making it simplistic portrays Ellie Goulding as a youthful character. The same conventions are shown through the colour contrasts of gold and black on the CD. If you look really closely (where the arrow is pointing), you can see that they have included little stars around the CD, conveying the theme once again.
