MSU: CONSTRUCTION SAFETY

SAFETY IS…..being aware of your surroundings and having the proper equipment to avoid the risks associated with the task at hand...the ability to carry out work in a swift manner making sure nobody suffers injuries and that quality of work isn’t compromised... NOT the absence of injury

OUR DISCOVERIES Understanding the fatal four Understanding that these incidents have similar origins in behavior The construction site is constantly evolving Communication and awareness can influence behavior

HOW CAN WE… 1.Reduce exposure to dangerous behavior and situations on the worksite? 2.Improve communication of evolving dangers on the worksite? 3.Encourage a work space where workers look out for each other?

WHO ARE WE DESIGNING FOR? We are designing for the people who work primarily on the construction site and the communication between the hierarchy of labor Managers Foremen Tradesmen General Laborers

WHAT ARE THEIR NEEDS? Communication Everyone to be invested in each others safety Vocalize evolving dangers Awareness Visual acknowledgment of work zones

KEY INSIGHTS MOVING FORWARD Space, working together, management, voice, attitude A design that can easily be implemented and does not affect the quality/cost of work Focus is not to change behavior but to influence behavior.
