Communication and Efficiency

Why did we attend the conference? O To improve communication between staff, office, and administration. O To decrease the amount of discipline issues within the classroom O To increase student achievement O To increase our ability to follow through with requests O To increase the amount of time we are in the classrooms

Rationale O If Amy and Angela are in the classrooms and visible then we have a greater chance of decreasing discipline. O If Amy and Angela are in the classrooms and visible then we have a greater chance of assisting and supporting you in instruction and interventions O If we are out of the office, and with kids and teachers, the office then becomes less chaotic

How do we do this??? O Amy and Angela will be in the classrooms two days a week ALL DAY!!!!! We will have ipads and laptops for things that need our immediate attention….ALL DAY!! O These are classroom days ONLY!! Unless there are discipline issues that need immediate attention, we will not be pulled out of classrooms O We may be in some classrooms up to 3 to 4 times a day on these days…

How do we do this?? (contd) O We will each have three office days. These are days where meetings will be scheduled within the building….EVERYTHING needs to be scheduled with Barb…(we will get to that ) O Example: If I’m walking down the hall…… O Fill out a request form to meet with Amy or Angela O C:\Users\bemusa\Desktop\ tif C:\Users\bemusa\Desktop\ tif

How do we do this? (contd) O These forms will be filled out and put in our box. Our box will be moved OUTSIDE our door. We will need one hour notice….Plan Ahead….. O If you need to schedule a time to meet with Amy or Angela then you ask Barb…not us.. O Barb is now the gate keeper to our schedules. She schedules EVERYTHING!!

Barb (and Julie)…. O Barb is directed to ask what the meeting is about and how much time you will need. O EVERYTHING is scheduled…even if it is for just 5 minutes. Lets go back to the example…… O She does not need to know all the details, but she will ask what the meeting is about and how much time you will need. O You will need to write a request form for anything you need from us. But…Barb is in charge of the forms and she will schedule accordingly.

Barb (and Julie)…. O Barb’s role is to be the school secretary and Angela and Amy’s secretary. Barb has been instructed to NOT: O 1. Make copies for any teacher O 2. Take personal messages unless emergency-ask permission to use cell phone if you are expecting a call. O 3. Take care of things for students such as call a parent for a student.

Barb (and Julie)… O 4. Call parent’s for the teacher to check on medication. O If you have any concern regarding medication, please call the parent and respectfully discuss how you are noticing a difference and that they are struggling…If after you have made the first parent contact then request for Amy or Angela to call parent.

What this will look like! O Our office is going to be turned into a conference room. We will work in the conference room on our office days for meetings and phone calls. O We will work in the classrooms for periods of time during our office days…These would be instances where a particular class is struggling with behavior issues. Our presence alone can alter student behavior.

What this will look like! O There will be a box outside our door for the request forms. You will put all forms in the box and Barb is in charge of them. She will then schedule according to what the form states. O We understand there are emergencies!! All discipline protocols with individual problem students are still in place as was before.

What this will look like!! O It is going to require planning ahead. On our part and yours O You will not be frustrated because we forgot, or didn’t get to your request. O You will see us more often, so if you have to tell us something we are right there, you will see us all the time!! If you need something from us then you would fill out a request form.

What this will look like… O Overview of request form:request O Discipline will be on request form instead of . This will ensure that all students who need to talk to us are talking to us. O Every request form goes in our box. Blank forms will be in our box as well as an electronic copy of the wiki. O Angela and Amy will be more reliable and be able to give more quality support and feedback in all areas.
