Restricting Chaos and Establishing Order Restricting Chaos and Establishing Order How to Use Restrictions to Benefit Students Presented by Yolanda Nigrelli David Alexander Ana Davis

Why Restrict Your Course? The following scenario has been experienced by your presenters in one semester: Assigned to teach 200+ student segments Teaching four different preparations Students are enrolled across four different schedules Will you be prepared if this happens to you next semester? “Release Conditions and Restrictions” will save you and at the same time keep your student on track. You want to incorporate tools that will help direct your students in their studies and save your sanity. “Release Conditions and Restrictions” can be used for items in Discussions, Dropbox Folders, Quizzes, Checklists, and even News Items.

Idea Behind Restrictions is Simple When restrictions and release conditions have been set up, your student will only have access to view files, quizzes, news items, etc., when they have met the desired criteria. Restrictions can be as simple, or as complex, as you choose to make them. Restrictions allow you to direct student workflow and release assignments at appropriate times for students individually without you having to monitor each student. Restrictions will prevent students from working ahead before finishing previous assignments. Restrictions help the student stay focused. Setting up restrictions will be well worth your time and efforts.

How to Setup a Release Condition In the sample course, every to-be-graded assignment has been restricted from student view. The following slides illustrate the steps below that were taken to restrict a vocabulary project. Step 1 - Choose the file you to want to restrict and click on the down arrow to the right of the assessment Step 2 - Choose the tab entitled Restrictions Step 3 - Choose Create and Attach Step 4 - Choose the Condition Type and the Condition Details and Create Step 5 - Click on Save and Close
