Dinosaurs ruled the land about 4000 years ago! In different ages the dinosaurs get bigger and bigger and bigger! Fascinating!!! Dinosaur means terrible lizard. The Triassic period

The first dinosaurs to appear on Earth were the Coelophysis. (see-lo-fy-sis) Plateosaurus (plat-ee-oh-saw-us) Mussaurus (muss-or-rus) grew to be about 20 times it’s birth size by the time it reached maturity. If you grew at that rate you would end up about 7.6m tall! Peteinosaurus (pet-ine-oh-saw-rus) Procompsognathus (proh-komp-sog-nay-thoos) In the Triassic period it would usually flood, there are also lots of bugs. The Triassic climate was generally hot and dry, forming typical red sandstones and evaporates. There is no evidence of glaciations at or near either pole; in fact, the polar regions were apparently moist and temperate, a climate suitable for reptile-like creatures.

Jurassic Dinosaurs Allosaurus (al-oh-saw-rus) was the most common predator of Jurassic times, it was also very greedy! Apatosaurus (ap-at-oh-saw-rus) means deceptive lizard Stegosaurus (steg-uh-saw-rus) means roof lizard Brachiosaurus (brak-ee-oh-saw-rus) means arm lizard Ceratosaurus (ser-a-toe-saw-rus) horn lizard Diplodocus (dip-lod-oh-kus) double beam In the Jurassic period there were lots of plants and that means less carnivores. The climate was very hot and dry in the beginning of the Jurassic period. There were many tufted, palm-liked cycads, seed ferns, gingkos and conifers in sub-tropical forests. (zoomdinosaurs.com)

Cretaceous Period Tyrannosaurus Rex (tie-ran-oh-saw-rus rex) means tyrant lizard. Anatotitan (an-at-oh-tite-an) means giant duck. Torosaurus (tor-oh-saw-rus) means bull lizard. Giganotosaurus (jy-gan-no-to-saw-rus) means giant southern reptile. Carcharodontosaurus means shark tooth lizard. At the end of the Cretaceous period there was a great extinction of many species, including dinosaurs. Birds, small reptiles and mammals, many marine creatures and plants survived. Scientists believe a giant meteor hit the earth, causing massive destruction, tidal waves, acid rain, and huge clouds of dust that blocked the sun's rays from reaching the earth to light and warm it. The dinosaurs were among the many species that were wiped out. Following the great extinctions, there was a slow recovery and evolution of new species.

The Extinction Of The Dinosaurs The dinosaurs became extinct for many reasons, the most known reason was when the comet hit Earth. The climate was changed (it was colder). Some other reasons was because dinosaurs were running out (diagram next page) in many different ways. Six times in the past, huge numbers of living things have been wiped out in catastrophic mass extinction. The exact causes are unknown. This was very tragic for the dinosaurs.

How The Food Chain Died! Too hot Plants die Water!!! Plant-eating dinosaurs die My food, it’s starting to rot! When meat stays in the sun too long it rots. Meat-eating dinosaurs die burning
