Environmental questions

Environmental issues are a priority if we are to save our planet. What is meant by the ‘three R’s’? Reduce Reuse Recycle

Discuss how a hotel can respond to environmental issues. If environmentally friendly = good reputation Refillable bottles of sauces. Using less packaging on things such as sandwiches. Recycling waste from the kitchen – animal feed. Recycling glass, cans and paper. Advising guests of their environmental policy.

Suggest ways in which the kitchen staff can educe waste. Buy in larger quantities Use pre prepared foods Use foods with less packaging Recycle cans, glass and cardboard Re-use containers Training on how to prepare foods so less waste

Identify reasons why it is important for the industry to address environmental issues To help protect the environment They have a responsibility for being environmentally friendly by recycling as much as possible. It enhances the companies’ reputation if they have the right attitude towards the environment. To keep up with the governments guidelines on the 3 R’s.
