Pinhole Photography

Light Photography is the recording of light on a light sensitive material. How much light depends on the film. Film speed relates to the level of sensitivity to light.

Parts of Film Antiscratch Layer A layer or coating that protects the emulsion from physical damage

Emulsion Emulsion (Gelatin and Light-Sensitive Silver-Halide Crystals) Halides that are suspended in a gelatin material. Number and size of halides determine “speed” of film. 0-100—Fine Grain 200-800 Larger Grain (Less Time)

Adhesive Layer Bonds layers together Several adhesive layers

Film Base (Cellulose Acetate) Transparent layer which supports the image Plastic Thickest layer

Anticurl/Antihalation Coatings Absorbs light so that it does not expose film from the rear. Also stabilizes film so it does not curl.

Parts of the Camera Body Light tight box, strong enough to hold all other parts and is comfortable to hold.

Aperture Opening which allows light to reach film. Usually coupled with a lens. F/Stop relates to size of aperture opening.

Shutter Door that opens and closes allowing light to expose film.

Film Holder Device to keep film in place while camera is transported and exposure is made.
