Violence in the Congo By Dante Iannetta

For more than a decade now, violence continues to ravage the Democratic Republic of the Congo, due to many militias and regimes constantly trying to overrun the government. The government is corrupt. Government agents transporting looted goods.

The militias and regimes are led by ruthless leaders who’s main goal is to spread fear throughout the country and liberate it from the government. Warlord Laurent Nkunda

Children live their lives with no education, no knowledge, nothing. It’s extremely hard to earn money as an adult. With no education, the people in the Congo live in poverty.

People die every day from diseases like Cholera and Malaria, due to poor sanitation. There are 83 deaths per 1000 child births.

Rape survivors being treated. The Congo is known as the “Rape Capital of the World.” Women and children get raped every day. Many die from the AIDS disease. Most rape perpetrators bribe their way out of prison.

A great deal of children have voluntarily joined or are forced to join the various rebel groups. Children as young as 8 years know how to use a fire arm. Many witness or participate in mass killing of hundreds. This is wrong.

Take Action Write letters to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressing concern Donate money to various agencies that help the Congo
