What is your writing process? How do you write? What steps do you take to complete a writing assignment?

What are the steps? PreWriting Drafting Revising Editing Publishing

Step 1: PreWriting Find your inspiration! Determine your most useful form to pre write (lists, mapping, webbing, graphic organizers, etc.) Choose a topic and plan it out.

Step 2: Drafting Select your writing ideas from your pre writing exercise. Write, Write, Write! “Sloppy copy.”

Step 3: Revising ARMS  ADD-Sentences and words.  REMOVE-Unneeded words/sentences.  MOVE-Change a sentence or word placement.  SUBSTITUTE-Trade words or sentences for others. Rereading to make the story better. Think ARMS !

Step 4: Editing Think CUPS!  CAPITALIZATION- names, places, months, titles, etc.  USAGE-match nouns/verbs correctly.  PUNCTUATION- periods, quotes, commas, questions marks.  SPELLING-check all words. Spelling Capitalization Punctuation Grammar Sentence Structure Subject/Verb Agreement Word Usage

Step 5: Publishing Blue or black ink or word processor. Center title on top line with a line space that follows. Name, class, and date in top right hand corner. Double spaced Neat- no scribbles or overuse of liquid paper. Staple in top left hand corner. Include a copy of rubric for grading.

Post-It Activity How can you apply the writing process to your writing assignments?
