Why do people smoke? On your post it notes, write down as many reasons you can think of as to why people smoke. On your table – can you group them together under any categories?

What are the effects of smoking? How many different effects of smoking can you think of?

Should the price of cigarettes be raised? Facts: -There are approx 10.3 million smokers in Britain; around 21% of the adult population. -The average price of a 20 pack of malboro is £6.42. If you smoke 100 a week, you would spend £1, per year on cigarettes people are employed by tobacco companies in Britian whilst 80,000 jobs depend on tobacco sales (wholesales and retailers) - Tobacco kills approx 5.4 million people in one year, that’s about one person every 6 seconds. 100 million deaths in the 20 th Century and if trends continue, up to one billion in the 21 st Century. With this in mind, do you think the price of cigarettes should be raised?
