Protective Clothing

Objectives To understand the proper protective equipment to be used in the Ag mechanics Lab

PPE It is very important, while working in the agricultural mechanics lab, to wear some type of protective clothing. The type of equipment being used by the person determines the type and amount of protective clothing. There are three basic areas of the body when it comes to protective clothing. – Face and eyes – Body – Feet

Face and Eyes the most important part to be protect. – eyes are easily damaged. Safety glasses provide a minimum amount of eye protection. – This should be the Must Be Z87 Glasses IN THE AG LAB – Wear safety glasses at all times!

Body No part of the body is safe from accidents. Suitable protective clothing that fits properly helps to prevent and reduce injuries. There should be – no cuffs, strings, or ties for machinery to catch. – Close fitting – Not Flammable IN THE AG LAB – Shirts with sleeves – No Baggy Clothes

Feet Feet and Hands are the most damaged area in accidents Leather shoes with steel toes are recommended when working in a shop. Need to be able to grip the floor Wear Rubber boots in locations covered in water or when using pesticides. IN the AG Lab – Need closed toed shoes
