Lesson 6: Nutrition 101 A Word About Water

Question: What is the Best Beverage You Can Drink to support your body and your health? WATER

FOOD FACT: About 60% of your body is water weight. Water makes up more than 75% of your brain, 80% of your blood and 70% of lean tissue.

Wonderful Water What Does it Do? Involved in all life’s processes Carries nutrients around your body Removes waste Involved with chemical structures Combines with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, so they can do their job Cushions joints, eyes, the spinal cord and the amniotic sac in pregnancy Regulates blood temperature and controls blood volume And many, many, many other uses!

YOU CAN LOSE UP TO ½ OF A LITER OF WATER A DAY, SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO REPLENISH IT

How Much Do You Need? 1.Write down your weight in pounds. 2.Divide that number by 2. This is the number of ounces you need a day. 3.Then divide this number by the usual size of your water bottle or glass (e.g., 8 ounces in a cup). 4.This will give you the number of glasses you need a day.

EXAMPLE: WATER CALCULATION If you weigh 120 pounds. Divide that by 2 to get 60. This is the number of ounces you need a day. If you usually drink out of a 12- ounce water bottle, then divide 60 by 12. You will need to drink about 5 water bottle containers of water a day.
