PROPER HANDLING OF HALOGENATED ALKYL SILANE BASED REAGENTS Stephanie Oyola-Reynoso PI: Dr. Martin Thuo

What is it? : Hazardous: Safety: Measures: Reacts Heavily with Water: releasing hydrogen chloride Toxic if Inhaled In case of spills, wash with plenty of water or soak up the spill with liquids using sand and dispose by incineration Corrosive Work under the fume-hood at all times If contact to eyes immediately flush eyes with plenty of running water Wash hands before and after handling the products Wear rubber gloves, safety glasses and protective gear Store in a cool, dark place to lower the rate of reaction Avoid humid environments Do not leave containers open Combustible Reference: MSDS: Silanes [Br, Cl, I] - per fluorinated Hydrophobic
