One method to solve this problem is to “Clean House and Make Momma Happy!”

First… you want to pretend that you are doing two digit by one digit multiplication. I like to cover the digit. 45 X32

Second… Follow the steps when multiplying Second… Follow the steps when multiplying. Two X Five is Ten, so you would write the zero and carry your one. 1 45 X32

Next Multiply two and four to get eight. Don’t forget to add the one. 1 45 X32 90

Now we clean house! You will ALWAYS place a zero in the ones place when moving on to the tens place. But first, you want to erase the numbers you carried. 45 X32 9 0

Since we made Momma Happy we need to add a smiley face to our zero! 45 X32 9 0

We can now move on to the tens place. 45 X32 90

First we will multiply three and five to get fifteen First we will multiply three and five to get fifteen. The five will go below the nine and carry the one. 1 45 X32 9 0 50

Next we will multiply the four and three to get twelve Next we will multiply the four and three to get twelve. Don’t forget to add your one. 1 45 X32 9 0 50 13
