Using NetWellness for Quality Health Information Jane Puleo Library Media Specialist Garfield Heights High School

What is NetWellness? Reliable Answers to Your Health Questions

Health information is everywhere--in popular magazines, on radio, and on TV. Tens of thousands of sites are on the Web. But where can you find expert answers and quality sources selected by medical authorities, all presented in easy-to- understand language?

NetWellness brings together credentialed health care professionals from Ohio’s three premier medical centers: Case Western Reserve University University of Cincinnati The Ohio State University

These experts provide the most current and accurate health information for people who need accurate answers to health questions. Currency and accuracy are important! Especially when it comes to your health!

You can search topics by the first letter. Searching by category is also helpful. This drop down box includes the categories of African American Health, Teen’s Health, Women’s Health, and more!

What is Ask an Expert? NetWellness is the only place on the Web to find physicians and other health professionals who answer all your questions, usually within 2-3 days.

What is Ask an Expert? Over 200 experts (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, dentists, social workers and more) cover hundreds of topics. Since 1996, these experts have answered over 20,000 questions. 30 NetWellness experts are listed in the Best Doctors in America.

What else does it have? NetWellness has links to over 1,000 fully evaluated health Web sites, covering most diseases, conditions and health topics. ADAM Health Illustrated Encyclopedia MEDLINE and PubMed The Merck Manual of Medical Information …and more!

How do you use it? Find the webpage at

By typing in a topic to search in the search box, you’ll gain access to articles, reports, Ask an Expert responses, and to the A.D.A.M. Health Encyclopedia articles on that topic.

For this search on “cancer,” the top 5 results from the articles, reports and Ask an Expert are shown at the top. To get all the results, click here!

And further down the same page you’ll find the top 5 results from the encyclopedia. To get all the results, click here! You may also search Medline for journal articles by clicking here.

If you need help searching you may want to go to Health Topics first to find the right search word. Click here!

To get to “Ask an Expert” click here!

You can choose a topic by letter or by category.

Here the letter “S” has been chosen for an example.

“Smoking Cessation” has been chosen as a topic. You can browse previous “Ask an Expert” answers, learn more about the topic, or ask your own new question!

Be sure to check out all the other features available at the bottom of the NetWellness home page!

NetWellness is NOT an emergency service! If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please go to the nearest health care facility for assistance.

Only your personal physician or other health professional you consult can best advise you on matters of your health based on your medical history, your family medical history, your medication history, and how information from any of these databases may apply to you. NetWellness is meant to be an additional source of information!
