The county of Iasi has a surface of more than 5400 km² and lies at the east border of Romania with the Moldavia Republic. Its neighbors are in north Suceava and Botosani, the south Vaslui and the west Neamt. The geographical position on seven hills (Copou, Sorogari, Tatarasi, Cetatuia, Bucium, Galata, Holboca) attracted the comparison between the Moldavian city and Latin Rome. IA ŞI județ (county), northeastern Romania, bounded on the east by Moldova. The southward-flowing Prut River marks the county’s eastern border with Moldova, and the Siret River drains the hilly terrain of the county to the south. A university and several technical and professional institutes are found in Iași. Highways and railway connections extend through Iași, Târgu Frumos, and Pașcani.
