Introduction Module 2: VASC System Requirements As a VeriFone Authorized Service Contractor you will need to know, become familiar with, and understand the system requirements needed in order to perform your job successfully. Would a carpenter go out to repair a house without his tools and his toolbox? Of course not. The same holds true for the VASC. There is a list of tools that are required in order for you to be a successful VeriFone Service Contractor. Without having access to these tools you will not be able to perform your job successfully. Some laptops no longer are manufactured with a 9-pin serial port. Should your service laptop not have a 9-pin serial port there are several options available to you. Ruby Manager uses a HASP key. If the HASP key is not connected to your laptop you will not be able to access the program. The HASP key can be ordered either as a 25-pin connection or a USB connection. Mouse We suggest you have an external mouse, it will allow you to move around and work faster than using the internal mouse pad. As a VASC technician software and documentation will be downloaded from a website. VeriFone offers training and certification testing which must be completed online. We strongly recommend for faster and more efficient downloading a cable, DSL, or wireless connection be used. Dial-up in most cases will be too slow and may be unreliable.

Please do not use Windows 2000 ME. Windows 98 may not be supported or compatible with VeriFone proprietary software. HyperTerminal This is a free utility available when purchasing and installing Microsoft Windows.

Backup/Restore Utility This is VeriFone proprietary software. This DOS utility is needed when performing installations and service work at Sapphire and Topaz locations. The software will be needed when performing installations and service work at Sapphire and Topaz locations. The software will be available to you when you attend Topaz VASC Classroom Certification.

Anti-virus Utility Please ensure your laptop has an up-to-date version of an anti-virus utility. You will be accessing information, completing training, and certification tests using the internet. Without an up-to-date anti-virus your laptop will be exposed to virus’. Virus’ will cause your laptop to work inefficiently, improperly, or not at all.

The RS232 cable will be connected to this adaptor which will then connect to the POS terminal. VeriFone POS Terminal(s) Ruby and/or Topaz terminals will be needed for the installation. Fuel/DCR Communications Kit In order for the fuel and DCRs to interface with the VeriFone POS controller a communication kit will be needed. There is a specific kit for each dispenser manufacturer (Tokheim, Wayne, etc.). The type of kit will be determined when completing the site survey.

The type of module needed will be determined when completing the site survey. Dispenser Card Reader Interface Device This interface is required for card readers to work at the dispenser.
