Presentation transcript:

Brain Teasers You start with a single lily pad sitting in an otherwise empty pond. You are told that the surface area of the lily pad doubles everyday and that it will take 30 days for the single lily pad to cover the surface of the pond. On what day is the pond half-covered in lily pads? Instead of one lily pad you start with 8 lily pads, how many days will it take to cover the pond?

Answers Day 29, the area doubles everyday, so one day before it is full, it is half-full 27 days. 1 is 20 while 8 is 23, so 8 lilypads have the same area as a single lily pad after 3 days, so it will take 3 less days to fill the pond.
