What is Intelligence? Definition1: Ability of Problem Solving Definition2: The ability to think, plan and schedule Definition3: Ability to tackle ambiguous and fuzzy problems Definition4: Memory and correct and efficient memory and information manipulation Definition5: Ability to learn and recognize Definition6: Ability to understand and perceive

Defination1 Example Definition1: Ability of Problem Solving

Defination2 Example Definition2: The ability to think, plan and schedule

Defination3 Example Definition3: Ability to tackle ambiguous and fuzzy problems

Defination4 Example Definition4: Memory and correct and efficient memory and information manipulation

Defination5 Example Definition5: Ability to learn and recognize

Defination6 Example Definition6: Ability to understand and perceive

Class Participation Let us consider an problem. Consider the sequence of numbers below: 1, 3, 7, 13, 21, ___ What is the Next Number ???

What is Artificial Intelligence? Categorized under two themes:  Systems that think like humans  Systems that act like humans

System that think like humans Definition1: “The study of mental faculties through the use of computational models” Definition2: The exciting new effort to make computers think … machines with minds, in the full and literal sense” (Haugeland, 1985) Definition3: activities that we associate with human thinking, activities such as decision making, problem solving, learning …” (Bellman, 1978)

System that think like humans Continued… Definition4: The study of computation that make it possible to perceive reason and act” (Winston 1992)

System that Act like humans Definition1: “The branch of computer science that is concerned with the automation of intelligent behavior” (Luger and Stubblefield, 1993) Definition2: “A field of study that seeks to explain and emulate intelligent behavior in terms of computational processes” (Schalkoff, 1990) Definition3: “The art of creating machines that perform functions that require intelligence when performed by people” (Kurzweil 1990)

System that Act like humans Continued… Definition4: “The study of how to make computers do things at which, at the moment, people are better” (Rich and Knight, 1991)
