What is the relationship between a student’s GPA and the Average amount of sleep attained at night? Carlos Jose T. Cortes AP statistics Final Project

Purpose I wanted to know is the amount of sleep that an average High School student receives during the week affects the GPA of the students.

Experimental Design Population: The entire kenwood Academy Student Body. Sample Population and Population Size: A sample of 46 kenwood Students chosen randomly at the hallways

Procedure The data will be gathered with the use of two questions. 1.What is your current weighted GPA(grade point average)? 2.What is the average number of hours you are able to sleep during the night The students surveyed will be from a science class, english class, world language class, and a math class. The classes are a mix of regular, honor, and AP class levels in an effort to prevent preferential bias

Hypothesis H 0 : there is no relationship between a kenwood students GPA and the hours of sleep he receives per day. H a : there is a relationship between GPA and hours of sleep received

Data Gathered Average GPA from sample: 3.47 weighted Average hours of sleep students receive: 6 hours

Graph of Linear Regression Line 3

Linear Regression (y=a+bx) a= b= r²= r=

conclusions after performing the linear regression test I must say that there is little correlation between GPA and the amount of hours a kenwood student sleeps during the night I fail to reject the null hypothesis

reflection I concluded that there is no relationship between GPA and hours of sleep received by Kenwood Students However, in order to attain a more accurate conclusion I feel that I must increase my sample size. Furthermore I believe that I could have gone into better detail by creating categories to see if there are any differences between the freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors
