Presentation transcript:

INFSO-RI Enabling Grids for E-sciencE All activity meeting Vincent Breton On behalf of NA4

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Table of content Plans for deliverables Response to reviewer recommendations Presentation of user forum (M. Lamanna) Issues until the end of the project

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Deliverables and milestones DNA4.4: « Final Report of Application Identification and Support Activity with revision of EGEE Application Migration Progress report” at PM23 MNA4.4: “Second external review of Applications Identification and Support with feedback” at PM24 –Analysis of the second user survey

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Recommendation 11 “For each application, produce a matrix of requirements versus the gLite components that will fulfill these requirements. Use a color coding scheme to identify priorities and importance. “ Response –Massimo has already input from the 4 experiments (Baseline working group) –Johan is collecting input from NA4 biomed –Matrix presented to generic applications at user forum

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Recommendation 12 “Create an inventory of all application users. For each user, compile a list of all the applications she is using, together with the relative importance of each application to the user and application characteristics (for instance, compute bound, I/O bound, etc.). Establish a process to keep this inventory up to date.” Response –Use the abstracts sent in perspective of the user forum to create an inventory of the applications –Use the user survey to start a list of users: questions added in this perspective Issues –the real number of active users for each application –applications which are services to large communities are not yet useful and used services  Lack of packaging  Lack of functionalities (i.e short jobs)

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Second user survey Needed for milestone MNA4.4 Target: non HEP users Goals –review the satisfaction of the users –Start an inventory of users Format: survey available on line but also on paper during User Forum –User forum is a great opportunity to survey the user community Status: new forms are circulated within NA4. Soon to PEB

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Gen. Apps. activity Very good activity of Gen. Apps. in the last quarter of 2005 Number of users increased in all VO’s: –DILIGENT O(10) –COMPCHEM 9 –ESR 35 –EGEODE 10 –PLANCK 30 –NEMO&ANTARES 4 –LATTICE QCD 3 –Archaeogrid 2 Important NA4 Generic Applications meeting in Catania on Jan, More than 50 participants. All presentations available at: Many excellent summary reports and various presentations on the new functionalities of gLite with use cases and real work demonstrations Important developments from Gen.Apps. communities: GDSE

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Biomed activity Applications –Sustained production in 2005 (~20Kjobs / month) –gLite migration on-going –gLite testing proved to be difficult due to PPS instabilities –4 biomed demonstrations in Pisa –The biomed Data Challenge was followed by a WISDOM open day in December targeted towards results dissemination and exploitation –A second DC is being envisaged –Various application portals have been deployed. High level user interfaces are increasingly needed. Services –The Medical Data Management working group is progressing on delivering a high level medical data management service –Transparent grid file access and encryption/decryption tool have been developed at IBCP and deployed on LCG2.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Issues Worries –The deployment of high level services is critical for some applications (in particular Data Management and Data Security). –The TCG is an important decision taking body which is too keen on neglecting non-HEP applications.
