Re-cap- Impact on the UK

Rising sea levels. What is the relationship between climate and sea level. (Think about glacial and interglacial periods) This is the long term relationship- however there are short term changes which relate to atmospheric changes, ocean circulation and wind.

What happens to sea water in warmer temperatures? How long ago was the last glacial maximum (LGM)? According to the IPCC, how much will sea level rise for low emission scenarios. Why are climate models and future predictions important? What sort of temperature change can determine whether we are in a glacial or interglacial period? What is the theory behind the statement ‘Scotland is slowly rising’?

Case study- the Netherlands

Flood protection schemes may fail. Agricultural land lost Loss of land could mean raised prices of goods. Increase in land price Mass population displacement Regional tension Could be costly to replace flood protection schemes- The Netherlands’s “Living with Water/We are Here to Stay” campaign is estimated to cost 0.2% of the Netherlands yearly GDP to build and maintain.

Question: Outline the possible impacts of changing sea levels on people.
