What Does the Public Know About GMOs? Group #5 Shara Herman, Will Keesler Purpose: To discover what people don’t know about GMOs 22 completed, survey distributed online via SurveyMonkey Year Standing: Grad student=3, senior=10, junior=3, sophomore=2, freshman=4 Hometown Setting: – Urban=2, Suburban=17, Rural=3

TotalAverage Rating I think food should be labeled if it contains GMO’s I would eat food if I knew it contains GMO’s I would not eat food containing GMO’s because of health reasons I would not eat food containing GMO’s because of moral reasons I would not eat food containing GMO’s because of religious reasons I would feed animals GMO crops I believe enough studies have been done to prove GMO’s safety for human consumption.223 I am interested in learning more about GMO’s Simplified Scale Analysis 5Limits Strongly Agree> 4 Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree<1

Findings: 95% of the sampled populations knows what GMO stands for. 55% of those polled spent >1 hour researching 100% researched from accredited websites 0% found information on TV Conclusion: Of those polled, most were informed and people typically had strong views on both sides of the scale. Recommendations: In the future, poll less science based majors to understand the majority of the population as well as those not attending college.
