Henry Brown wasn’t sure how old he was. Henry was a slave. And slaves weren’t allowed to know their birthday.

One morning the master called for Henry and his mother. The master is very ill. “You are a good worker, Henry. I am giving you to my son” The master said Later on in Henrys life, he met his wife Nancy. They got married and had three children. When Henry was at work his friend told him that Henrys wife and kids were about to be sold.

Henry worked hard in his new masters factory. Pulling tobacco is very rough and they didn’t have gloves.

Escaping Slavery One morn Henry decided he did not want to a slave. Him and his friend planed the escape. Henry was going to ship himself to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In a box!
