Our project Lesson 1 Rubbish!

Let’s get started… Please take a minute or two to complete a quick questionnaire We’ll complete it again at the end of the project to see if your views have changed.

The stuff we throw away Where does it go? Where did it come from? How’s it made?

Your homework… Make a rubbish diary to show everything you and your family throw away in 2 days Due in 20 th Sept (2 weeks’ time) Stick your sheet in the kitchen by the bin Ask everyone to write down what they put in

So what IS plastic?? Believe it or not, it’s made from oil Oil’s made from sea creatures that died millions of years ago that got buried and squashed The oil is trapped underground. It gets pumped out using this     

Next the oil is sorted into different liquids This is done in a refinery like this 

One of the liquids is used to make plastic…

…which is shaped as necessary…..then sold to us!

Then we throw it away It ends up in any of these

So what’s this got to do with me? Brainstorm here!

Next… You can choose! Show the process of making ‘Paul the Plastic bag’, and what happens when he’s thrown away. Choose from: –Cartoon –Story –Pictures –Flow chart

Plenary Thoughts for the day…
