Presentation transcript:

Tuesday, Dec 15th HW: reading log—study for test tomorrow Warm Up: Answer in your notes section (this will be worth points on the test, so do it!): 1. A poet is different from a speaker because ___________. 2. A poet (or author) uses figurative language to _______________. 3. It is easier for me to find the (literal / metaphorical ) meaning of a poem because ______________. Obj: I can compose a poem like a well-known poet by using his/her poem as a model.

Warm Up Answers 1. A poet is different from a speaker because the poet is a real person who creates the speaker who is like a character—made up. 2. A poet (or author) uses figurative language to describe something; to make the poem have more emotion; to make the reader feel, hear, or see it more clearly. 3. It is easier for me to find the (literal / metaphorical ) meaning of a poem because____. This will be different for different students—but YOU SHOULD KNOW BY NOW WHICH IS HARDER FOR YOU BECAUSE THE TEST IS TOMORROW!

Reminders for after warm up: My students will respect you because they respect themselves and me. Gentle reminders and silent lunch slips work well—the slips are on the little white “drawer-thingy” on my desk. Give them one and write their name on a sheet of paper for me. Still a problem? Send to Mr. LaGrange with a note that they are being disrespectful. Stop Sign=no chromebook; Go Sign=yes chromebook They are seated WITH their project groups so there is no need for them to get out of their seat without permission. Do not collect anything today—I will collect their late work tomorrow. Students who were absent yesterday in 2 nd and 4 th may choose to take the quiz they missed—no chromebook or talking. If they want to wait until Thursday or Friday that is perfectly acceptable. Non-language arts class notes: Our healthy living assignment is the track this week. 9 th block students can be combined with Ms. Virtenan today to work on poetry projects—having two adults in the room will be helpful. Anyone who is done can work on COMPASS LEARNING.

On Your Own/In Your Groups 1.Check your pre-assessment answers on my webpage—I put the answers there this morning. me with any questions that a group member (person already sitting with you) cannot answer. Special tutor session Wed at 7: Poem project—this should be relatively quiet. Compare and Contrast AND Compose own poem. This is the last class period for the project. Test tomorrow and presentations Thursday!! 3. When done, work on missing work from progress report (newsela, Gifted Hands) 4. Done with all this? Reading log. 5. Done with reading log? COMPASS LEARNING.
