By Kaden Meeds and Liam Whitworth Building a Sports Dome over Klas Field at Hamline University: A Feasibility Report By Kaden Meeds and Liam Whitworth

Feasibility Project Outline Introduction Methods Results Conclusion Recommendation

Methods Several Google searches were conducted Survey of 36 Hamline Students was conducted Interview with Athletic Director Jason Verdugo Received direct information from Dave Green on Yeadon Fabric Domes, LLC.

Results In 2010, Hamline University received $10 million in donations No tuition increases for students A majority of the funds could be raised from donations and large scale fundraising

Results: Figure 1 This graphic depicts the percentage of students at Hamline University who support the construction of a sports dome on campus 77.1% support the project 20% do not support the project 2.9% are undecided on the project

Results: Figure 2 This graphic show the dispersion of how students would prefer to fund a sports dome A vast majority of the student population prefers finding a sponsorship, receiving donations, and fundraising Raising tuition received a small portion of support, but was largely unpopular

Results: Figure 3 A major issue that non-athletes face at Hamline University is a lack of space to workout at due overcrowdedness due to the volume of athletes 72.2% of students would feel more comfortable with a less crowded weight room 16.7% of students would not feel more comfortable 11.1% have no feeling toward the subject

Results: The Cost A standard Yeadon Fabric dome costs $812,000 Additions to the dome to increase the longevity of the dome to 20 years These additions increase the price to $989,770 The domes operating costs would be between $70,000-$88,000

Results: The Revenue To make a profit we could rent the dome for $400-$600 an hour Assuming $88,000 cost per year with $400 rent per hour a total of 220 rental hours would be needed to break-even 220 hours/6 months/4 weeks= 9 hours a week

Conclusion A sports dome would decrease the overcrowdedness of Walker Field House It would enable out of season athletes to practice freely A sports dome would increase student activity leading to a fitter campus A sports dome would benefit Hamline University in several aspects

Recommendation It is feasible! It will break even/turn profit on yearly basis Student support is high More research is needed to determine the minor details
