Fundamentals of Genetics (chapter 9). Who was Gregor Mendel? ~An Austrian monk that is considered to be the “father of genetics” ~Used pea plants for.
Study of heredity is called? genetics What does it mean to be homozygous?
Dog Kennel Brochure. You will be creating a brochure to advertise your Dog Kennel. You “design” puppies using your knowledge of genetics and patterns.
1/30/15 Objective: Who was Gregor Mendel and what were his contributions to genetics? Do Now: What is a trait, name a few.
Genetics Fill-In Notes Part 2 Mrs. Kooiman. Incomplete Dominance When a cross between organisms with two different phenotypes produces offspring with.
Where did it come from? Who invented it?.  Undiscovered until 1901  Work was found! :D  Reginald Punnett wanted to use it  Help of G. H. Hardy  But.
Genetics. Heredity Passing of genetic traits from parent to offspring Gregor Mendel discovered the principles of heredity while studying pea plants (“Father.
Beyond Dominant and Recessive Alleles. Incomplete Dominance: when neither allele is completely dominant over the other. · Results in the heterozygous.
Codominance "co-" is "together".  Refers to a relationship between two alleles of a gene. Both traits appear in an organism. They do not overpower each.
7.2 Dominance & Blood Type.
Other Methods of Inheritance: Codominance and Incomplete Dominance
Warm ups: What is a sex linked disorder?
There are different types of dominant alleles. We have studied simple dominance, now lets examine 2 exceptions to the rules.
Beyond Mendelian Inheritance When black + white = black, white, gray or spots Incomplete dominance or blended dominance Codominance Multiple Alleles Regulatory.
Incomplete or Co-Dominant?!?!. Normally traits have one dominant allele and one recessive allele…. What happens when an allele for a trait isn’t completely.
Alternate Patterns of Heredity. Traits Expressed by Multiple Genes A trait can be influenced by several genes. A trait can be influenced by several genes.
I can… analyze punnett squares! Warm up: What percentage of heterozygous offspring would there be from a parent that is homozygous dominant and a parent.

Dominant vs. Recessive Dominant - Masks the other trait; the trait that shows if present Represented by a capital letter Recessive – An organism with.
Incomplete Dominance Neither allele is fully dominant over the other, but combine and display a new phenotype that is a blending of the two alleles EX:
Intro to Genetics What is an allele? –one of the alternative forms of a gene that governs a characteristic, such as hair color.

R=Red Flowers B=Blue Flowers RB=Purple Flowers Incomplete and Codominance You: What! Are You Kidding Me! There’s More? Me: Ummmm…no...not kidding…there is more. Really…it ain’t that hard. Incomplete Dominance: Both alleles are capitals…both are dominant…they MIX TOGETHER! Like mixing paint! R=Red Flowers B=Blue Flowers RR=Red Flowers BB=Blue Flowers RB=Purple Flowers Here’s one where red and white make pink

Try These Punnett Squares…please Cross a Blue flower with a red flower. Cross a red flower with a purple flower. Cross two purple flowers.

Okay…Codominance Same deal with the alleles…all letters will be capital. Same deal with both alleles being dominant. This time, it’s like splattering one color on another. Your parents paint the living room red, and you come home and splatter your favorite blue paint on the wall randomly. LEGAL DISCLAIMER-DO NOT ACTUALLY DO THAT!

So…Codominant Alleles R=Red Fish B= Blue Fish RR=Red Fish BB=Blue Fish RB=Red and Blue Fish (like spots or stripes)

Now Try These Punnett Squares…please Cross a Blue fish with a red fish. Cross a red fish with a red and blue fish. Cross two red and blue fish.

Can You Pick Out the Co-dominant and Incompletely dominant Example Can You Pick Out the Co-dominant and Incompletely dominant Example? Silly Question…of course you can

See…You Did it
