Question Can the color of fresh white flowers be changed?

Prediction I predict that the fresh white flowers can be changed to a desired color like red, blue, or green because the stem can absorb water. I think the color that will change the flower the fastest will be the green because it is a darker color.

Materials Red food coloring Blue food coloring Green food coloring Yellow food coloring Fresh white colored roses 15 empty cups water

Procedure 1. Fill several coffee cups with water. 2. Add 1 teaspoon of food coloring to each cups except one. 3. Put a plain white flower, or two, in each cups. 4. Leave the flowers in the jars overnight. In the morning, you will see how the flowers have absorbed the colored water up the stems and through the veins of the petals.

Data Trial 2

Data Trial 3

Written Results In my experiment, all the flowers changed colors except for the control samples. The control samples were in clear water and therefore did not change color. Based on my data, I learned that the flowers in green and blue water both absorbed color the fastest and that the flowers in red water took much longer than all of the others. I also noticed that not only the petals changed colors, but the stems and leaves showed a color changed, too.

Conclusion My prediction was that the green would color the flower the fastest. After my experiment, I concluded that the data showed the green and blue food coloring tied.
