Using Creating a Glog

GLOGSTER.COM---INTERACTIVE POSTERS GLOG- a glog is in interactive poster with elements that can be added to a basic clean slate. These elements include pictures, clip art, audio files, video files, embedded scripts, backgrounds, word clouds. The students design a poster according to your rubric requirements. They can be as simple or complex as you want them to be. They can be printed out in color if they have no interactive parts or show on a projector from the site if they do. The education side of glogster gives you 50 free student user IDs and Passwords. Why Use of this type of software application for instruction? 1) Expands Digital literacy 2) Enables Standards Mastery 3) Promotes Independent Problem Solving 4) Demonstrates understanding of Curriculum Objectives 5) Fulfills Universal Digital Literacy Principles 6) Provides Differentiated Instruction 7) Enhances Formative Assessment

Use your handout from the librarian with your login number and password number The login button is in the top right hand corner-it says Register or Login in red You choose Login Type in number for nickname And bottom number for password Do not lose your login number on this handout What I would ‘mini’ teach to the class coming into the library.

How to Build a Glog Hit “Create new Glog” You have a poster sized space to put all your elements into Erase all the sample boxes already there You pick backgrounds from the Wall menu first, look through all of them and find one that fits your need, and you have text boxes to type in from millions of choices of frames, colors, and shapes For pictures—search for photos on Google them save images to your my documents folder and name them pix,1 pix2, etc.

The Glog should contain (Rubric): 1. The person’s name you have chosen in large letters at top 2. a photo or two you import of the person 3. a textbox of what this person might post on their blog or facebook account if they were alive today—maybe more than one of these 4. Various objects that represent their time period–pix or clipart 5. At least one textbox containing a quote from this person; a real quote you have looked up in a book they have written with quotation marks for this one so search the internet for something they really said 6. A textbox of a timeline for this person’s life, major contributions to history, important events 7. Your name in a box on bottom and their name larger on top

First: Research your person Collect photos and save to U: my documents Or Copy and paste text files into word docs you save Save these to your U: my documents to import into your glog --- go to images on the tab in the glog and hit upload and find the name you gave your photo and highlight and hit open then in a minute it will appear on right and click “use it” to put it on the poster- then size it

Save it At the end of the period hit “save unfinished,” but when you are thru and have printed it hit “finish and publish” Give it a name like the person you are researching Give it a minute to save and don’t close it Go to next step and print it by right clicking in the middle of the poster (directions on next page)

Import items into glog Erase the elements you do not want on your wall from the example Put your name in one box like “created by...” Your teacher and librarian will be able to see all of your glogs created using this account number One will be presented to the class and graded Please print one copy of your finished glog to turn in to the teacher –print to the color printer in the library lib- PO3— right click in middle of it when it is open and go to print glog and select printer PO3 then hit print and get it from the printer by card catalog in a minute or two-it will have your name on it if you remember to add the box with your name
