Great Ways to Promote Your Writing With Magdalene V. Arroyo (Maggie V.)

Your Host Magdalene V. Arroyo, or Maggie V. is a writer and poet. She has published her compilation of work, titled “101 Ways to Jaywalk…Without Looking.” She is here to give you some tips on how to improve your writing. She is here to give you some tips on how to improve your writing. She is here on March 22, giving you this webinar to improve your writing and improve advertising.

What is writing? Writing is something that we do due to passion or need. We create new worlds and emotional relationships with our words. It is an ends to a means – we need it to convey messages and conduct business. So, here are some ways to key things to think about and utilize when writing and advertising your work. When you write, your work is like your baby; and with babies, we want to shower our work with the right attention. But, first we have to make sure that all is right and perfect with our babies (work).

Writing and Advertising There are many different means of advertising one’s writing through internet use and trade magazines and information. There are just some steps that we should take, before jumping to advertising.

What can writing lead to? Great writing can lead to many things. –To new jobs –To new connections –To new books –To gaining an agent –To publication

4 Quick ways to improve your writing Edit Think like a writer and a reader Take a break from your work Check over what you have previously written

Edit There is always room for revision and editing. If you have had your eyes on the work continuously, ask someone that you truly trust to help you edit it. Read the work back words, in order to ensure proper grammar.

Think like a writer and a reader YOU are creating the world and the relationships, maintain some sort of organization. “One of the most common mistakes inexperienced writers make is failing to consider the knowledge [and the interest] of their audiences (Messmer, p. 9).” Think as a reader, what is interesting, what can capture attention, what keeps people turning pages?

Take a break from your work If you have had your eyes on the work since the start, YOU NEED A BREAK, in order to gain clear eyes; and this also prevents things from becoming too muddled. To refresh the possible thoughts that you have. You need to maintain some sense of organization, a break may be necessary for this. “Descriptive writing is frequently illogical and disorganized because the subject itself—often the author's creation – shares the same flaws… Written descriptions of carefully planned and thoughtfully executed projects are generally (but not always) clear and cogent ( Hasegawa, p. 31.)”

Check over what you have previously written After you have taken a break from your work, go back to it – with new eyes. Edit the work that you have, make the necessary changes. Make some revisions, if there are problems within the work.

What to do when the written work is done: You have written your work, it is your baby; but what do you do now? Look for an agent or publishing house ADVERTISE YOUR WORK “Observe that there are "four psychological processes, [Motivation, perception, learning and memory] which contribute to our understanding of how advertising works": affective reactions to advertisements, persuasion, psychological processes (Beard, p ).”

4 Tips for better and more advertising Contact bloggers that review books and written work Advertise on Social Media Advertise on Online Bookstores Utilize advertisement space in Trade Magazines

Contact bloggers that review books and written work There are bloggers and websites that feature people who review books and written work. If you send them an with a synopsis of the book or the work, they may be interested in reviewing your work. Some bloggers and websites: –B–Bookslut.com,

Advertise on Social Media Create a product page for your work. On your personal page, place a picture of the work and synopsis of the book. This then gets the word out to at least a couple of hundred of people.

Advertise on Online stores You can purchase advertising space on Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com This is well-suited if you are selling your book or work on one of the sites.

Utilize advertisement space in Trade Magazines There are trade writing magazines that you can subscribe to and advertise in. They offer advertising space, and usually have advertising space for sale. Poetry trade Magazines:

Summary Writing requires creativity, passion, organization, and commitment. Frame of mind, and editing is great, taking a short break and going back to your work is better. When you have finished your work, you may try to find an agent, publishing house, and ways to advertise. Advertising gets the word out about your work. There are a few great ways to advertise, social media, bloggers, and trade magazines to name a few. Remember, after all of this, Keep your pens to paper, see you later writers.
