SAMPLE PROBLEM Susan finds $7 in her piggy bank …… = ….. Unfortunately she owes her sister $5. Recorded as -5 ……… + …… = ….. Recorded as = …..
SAMPLE PROBLEM = = …... These are the coins that Susan has ($7). This is the amount of money she owes her sister ($5).
SAMPLE PROBLEM Step 1: She must use some of the money to pay back her sister. That means she is left with $ = 0 So… = 2 = = …... The amount of money she now owes her sister.
