Mission Statement It is the mission of Blackman High School to challenge, cultivate, and engage individual students in the learning process while addressing their diverse needs, thus preparing them for post-secondary opportunities. Beliefs: A. All students, faculty and staff should have a safe and secure environment conducive to learning. B. All students, faculty and staff are valued individuals with a variety of unique needs. C. Students, parents, faculty and staff will establish positive relationships and respect in order to enhance student self-esteem. D. Varied instructional techniques should be used to engage all students in the learning process, in recognition of their diverse learning styles.

Classroom Rules 1.Respect Others…..including their Property. 2.Be Prepared and Ready for Class when bell rings. This includes candy sells, sharpening pencils, getting books, etc. 3.No talking during class unless engaging in topic discussion. 4.No standing in doorway or “box” areas. 5.Do not torture the animals. 6.Use safety and be attentive during laboratory experiments. 7.Turn in all assignments when due.

Life Science Course Description Life Science is a course that introduces students to living things and their relationship to the environment. The students explore the following: Cells Ecological Interactions Energy Production and Use Reproduction and Inheritance Classification and Environmental Diversity Biological Evolution The Life Science standards provide a basic foundation for the biological sciences. This curriculum is aligned with the Gateway Biology I course and the K-8 curriculum. Hands-on laboratory investigations, technology, research, inquiry, individual and group activities are used to meet the life science standards. Although the microscope is not addressed directly in the curriculum, it is recommended that students use this investigative tool extensively. As printed on the state website
