I vs. We *Julius and Gary: “why should I wear myself out for the team?” Mt 6:1-4; 16-18 **When do we have to put our needs aside for those of others? “Football is like life-it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect for authority.” -Vince Lombardi

Gettysburg *When do we allow history to repeat itself? How did history repeat itself for the Israelites? 2 Kings 24:7-20; 2 Kings 252 Chr 36:16-21 What ultimately changed for the Israelites and their fate? John 3:16 “Take a lesson from the dead. If we don’t come together, right now on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed.”

Turning Point What does Jerry do that starts to change their playing game? Luke 18:9-14 Parable of Pharisee and Tax Collector→ how are we to act? Here comes Sunshine! “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” → How can music bring people together? “Music does bring people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit. No matter what language we speak, what color we are, the form of our politics or the expression of our love and our faith, music proves: We are the same.” ― John Denver

Back to Reality *What was the reception like on the first day of school? Lk 6:37-42 Lk 12:2-9 *What is the reality of Coach Boone’s job? “Rule it like Titans”

The Beatitudes: Supreme Happiness Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. -how are we poor in our lives? Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land. (anawim: the vulnerable, poor, who humble themselves before God) → our times of being meek; when has it brought us closer to God? Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. → when have we been comforted by those around us? How has mourning brought us closer to God? Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. → when have we been hungry or thirsty? Do we hunger and thirst for a closer relationship with God? Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy → what is mercy? when has it been given to us?. Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. → what distractions do we need to remove from our lives to see God? Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. → when have we felt peace within ourselves? Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. → when can we witness justice in our world? Are we willing to correct injustices around us?
