November, 15 HCAL General S. Banerjee, O. Kodolova1 HCAL DPG report Sunanda Banerjee – SINP Olga Kodolova – SINP MSU November 15, 2012

HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 2 Outline Data vs MC issue for TP’s Filter for HCAL Laser Events HB/HE raddam monitoring DPG Organization chart in 2013

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 3 TPs (data vs MC) issue-I L1 DPG reported on the 5 th of November that some of trigger bits have event rate different for Data and MC. B.Winer Oct.2012 A.Heister, March, 2

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 4 TPs (data vs MC) issue-II Gobinda investigated the difference in RecHits between Data and MC (report at HCAL DPG on Nov. 12) EM : Tower HCAL : Tower EM : Sum HCAL : Sum Tower spectra are similar while Sum (HCAL) spectra are different ||<1.4 Gobinda Majumder

EM and Hadronic p T spectrum in Endcap (1.4<||<2.9) EM : Tower HCAL : Tower Sum is much larger in MC, number of towers is larger in MC EM : Sum HCAL : Sum Gobinda Majumder

Number of CaloTowers in different regions # of clusters in barrel is nearly the same between data and MC. In endcap and in HF region it is much larger in MC than in data BarrelEndcap HF Gobinda Majumder

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 7 TPs (data vs MC) issue-III Matching between TP’s and Rechits is a non-trivial task as TP’s can appear out of SOI (apart rechits) and there is some geometrical difference at the end of HE (ieta>20). Most of unmatched In endcap Pawandeep Jandir

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 8 TPs (data vs MC) issue-IV /ZeroBiasHPF0/Run2011B-v1 Pawandeep Jandir

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting Hcal Laser Events in Data  HBHE and HF laser events in physics data through August 2012  No indication of contamination from HO laser events, or from HF RADDAM events

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting Filtering Hcal Laser Events  Simple filter: remove events with > N calibration digis in a subdetector  Large number of calibration digis only present in laser (and NZS) events  Can also filter HBHE laser events by comparing occupancies in RBXes that receive/don't receive laser signals HBHE calib digi laser cut “Contour cut” separating laser events HF calib digi laser cut HF digi HF Calib all results from /JetHT/Run2012C-v1/RAW sample Jeff Temple

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting Scope of problem  In 2012C dataset, ~0.14% of events flagged as HBHE laser  ~0.6% of events flagged as HF laser Jet triggers were mostly polluted Jeff Temple

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting NZS bug  When porting filter from private area to CMSSW, check on NZS was dropped  Because laser filter checks calib digi occupancy, NZS events all flagged as laser events  Small overcleaning effect (1/4096); overcleaning does not bias results  Corrected filter already in place; already generating revised laser event list Results for subset of JetHT/2012C-v1/RAW dataset Laser events appear at the same rate in ZS and NZS events, as expected Corrected filter recovers 6311 events falsely flagged as laser events (Compare with correctly-flagged events, and 25 million total events) Jeff Temple

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 13 Raddam correction in HE - I DoubleMu data - 11 periods in 2012 We have corrections but do not understand the jump in outer rings after June technical stop. Robert Ciesielski

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 14 Raddam correction in HE - II Zvtx position is shifted starting from period 3 – can it be a part of explanation?

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 15 DPG organization chart in 2013

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 16 Back-up

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 17 Laser events pollution issues Laser events were penetrated into Physics streams and laser was switched off on the 21 st of August. The corresponding filter was created by Jeff Temple to extract laser events. Identification was done via: patterns in HCAL rechits number of calibration digis However, filter finds “laser-like” events in runs taken after 21 st of August (report from JetMET) After investigation it appears that these events are from NZS stream The new version of filter (uses only mark-and-events) is prepared and is available in 5_3_6_patch1. Reskimming of Run2012A,B,C is under way

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 18 Calibration procedure from 2011 to 2012 HPD and PMT gain drift HPD gain drift correction once per month (as in 2011) PMT gain drift correction once per week (roughly each ~1/fb) due to much higher degradation rate of gains in PMT (change w.r.t. 2011) HF Fibers degradation Radiation damage correction in HF based on the radiation damage measurements once per month (depends on the measurement) (change w.r.t. 2011) We consider HF is correctly calibrated with Z->ee corrections for the 2012 startup The above corrections as HcalGain condition IOV will be uploaded by creation to _express, _prompt and _offline tags and (by agreement) to _hlt tag

November 15, 2012HCAL General Meeting S. Banerjee, O.Kodolova 19 Calibration procedure (continuation) phi-symmetry corrections with iterative and NZS method (as in 2011) during technical stops while the needed statistics is available Isolated track calibration (as in 2011) during technical technical stops while the needed statistics is available Absolute scale in HF with Z→ee corrections (Long fibers). Short fibers will be calibrated using Long fibers calibration and MC correction for ratio between Long and short taking into account RadDam estimation for Short fibers The above corrections as HcalRespCorrs condition IOV will be uploaded by approval to_express, _prompt, _offline and _hlt tags
