Qualitative Data – Qualitative Data deals with descriptions. It is data that can be observed, but not measured. Colors, textures, smells, tastes, appearance, beauty, etc. Qualitative → Quality

Quantitative Data Quantitative Data deals with numbers. It is data that can be measured. Length, height, area, volume, weight, speed, time, temperature, cost, ages, etc. Quantitative → Quantity

Measures Of Central Tendency The mean, or average, of a set of numbers is the sum of all of the numbers divided by how many numbers there are. The median is the middle number when the numbers are written in order. The mode is the number that occurs most often. *There can be no mode, one mode, or more than one mode.

Associated Words To Know The minimum, or lower extreme, is the lowest value. The maximum, or upper extreme, is the highest value. The range is the difference between the maximum and the minimum. It lets you know how spread out the values are. An outlier is a value that is unusually spread apart from the other values in the set.

Example 5)Find the mean, median, mode, and range of the set: 3, 5, 8, 5, 8, 7, 16, 10, 2, 7, 1, 5, 6, 1

Which Measure of Central Tendency is best to use? The mean is best to represent sets with no outliers. The mean takes every number into account. The median is best to represent a set with outliers. The mode is usually not useful to represent a set of data.
