Basketball National 5 Lesson 6

Today we will… Homework feedback Positive impact of physical (tactics) on your team Physical (tactics) demands of role and strengths Describe an approach to developing performance Issue homework

Homework Codes In PE we use traffic light marking when marking homework. The codes used are as follows: Excellent of the standard expected Satisfactory, some key content / information missing Unsatisfactory, not of the level required - REDO

Homework – Due on Monday 22nd Choose a factor (circle): Mental Emotional Social Physical Choose a feature of this factor: Tactics (width, length) Explain how this feature could impact positively on a performance? (4 marks) Explain how your team ensured that you had length, depth and width in attack. (You may wish to use a diagram to help) (6 marks) Explain what is meant by the approach to developing performance whole-part-whole (3 marks)

Choose a factor (circle): Mental Emotional Social Physical Choose a feature of this factor: Tactics (width, length) Explain how this feature could impact positively on a performance? (4 marks) Width has a positive impact on my teams performance in attack. Our forwards fill the wide lanes giving us more attacking options. It also pulls defenders away from the middle of the court and the key. By pulling defenders out wide we create space in the key for our centres and space in the middle lane for the point guard to dribble. Creating space means players are under less pressure and have more time on the ball which improves our decision making and skill level. In attack our centres create length by taking up a position near the basket. This gives us more options as the point guard can pass long to the centre or wide to the forward. Passing long speeds up our attack and gives us a chance to score before the defence get back. It also creates space at the top of the key for other players to move into.

Factors Impacting on Performance Mental Emotional Social Physical Fitness Skill Tactics Width, Length and depth Personal strengths and weaknesses Role related demands What is meant by the two new points listed under Physical tactics?

List your personal strengths and also your weaknesses Individual Task List your personal strengths and also your weaknesses Name the position you play Personal Strengths Personal Weaknesses Point Guard Confident dribbler Accurate Passer 3 Point Shooter Fast Agile Centre Excellent Rebounder Anticipate Rebounds Good Passer Powerful Strong Forward Excellent at Lay-ups Confident dribbler Fast Agile

Approach to developing performance We have used two approaches to develop our performance, what are these approaches called? 1) Whole – Part - Whole 2) Conditioned Games Clue Game – specific area – Game Game with adapted rules or conditions

Whole – Part - Whole Last Monday’s lesson was an example of: i.e. Game – Practice by position - Game Whole – Part – Whole Whole-part-whole is often used by performers who already have some experience of an activity. Involves performing all of the skill/activity then breaking it into parts, practicing the weak parts of the performance and then performing the whole skill/activity again. This is an ideal method of learning when only part of the skill or whole performance is in need of improvement.

Questions – answer in your jotter Who is whole-part-whole a good approach to developing performance for? What does whole – part –whole involve When should this approach be used Whole – Part – Whole Whole-part-whole is often used by performers who already have some experience of an activity. Involves performing all of the skill/activity then breaking it into parts, practicing the weak parts of the performance and then performing the whole skill/activity again. This is an ideal method of learning when only part of the skill or whole performance is in need of improvement.

Homework – Due on Tuesday 30th Sept Explain how a lack of width and length in attack could negatively impact on your teams performance? (4 marks) Explain your role (position) in basketball and why you are suited to the position you play.
