Role of NSO Collection Responsible for data collection from the field, pertaining to any survey/ census implemented by NSO Compilation Responsible for the compilation (in tabulated form) of statistical data collected from the field Dissemination Official release of such findings either as a report, tabulated format or both

Data Collection Collected at the household level Includes core module such as sex of holder, HH size, land use, land tenure, livestock numbers, etc Ministry of Agriculture and the Bureau work in collaboration for its preparation and implementation Staff (agriculture & bureau) play supervisory role after vigorous training Hire enumerators after screening/ interviewing and training

Data Collection Collected by enumerators and supervisors Have on the Field Edit Checks In House Edits Hard Edits Soft Edits In house coding to check for validity, consistency, reliability and uniformity

Data Compilation Electronic Edit Checks/ Specifications in place prior to data entry Double Entry of survey/ census data to check for consistency and accuracy of entry Tabulation Output (check for consistency and reliability) Final Tabulation Output (aggregate and disaggregate)

Data Dissemination Public Awareness of survey/ census results (EG: Launching of Census of Population and Housing 2006) prior to official release Report format, tabulated format or amalgamation of both for stakeholders to utilize Publications and website

Rural Enterprises Data Collection Centralized Data Base (Extension Officers allocated through out the country but have head quarters around Apia) – agriculture and fisheries

Rural Enterprises Data Collection: Feasible or NOT!! Small Geographical Size (approx. 2,800 2 km) Existing Centralize Administrative System Effective Mechanism in place (Extension Officers & Monitoring) Proneness to natural disaster (food security issues) – specialized surveys Access to services in the rural area such as bank, veterinary services, trading centre for farm input, etc Centralized vs Decentralized data collection
