CIA staff Time: 1.5 minute(s) total Materials: PPT slide Transition Slide Introduction and overview of the Houston ISD CURRICULUM Presenter says: In HISD, we are striving to create access to a College-bound/Career Ready Culture for all students. [CLICK] In Texas, written curriculum is based on the state-required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) which is tested by the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), our state accountability test. A College Bound culture – starts with the TEKS and TAKS (in our standards-based curriculum). We teach children meaningful information and thinking skills to carry them beyond passing the TAKS tests. The TAKS test is a minimum standard of expectation. Our goal is to prepare students with life skills including readiness for a college or career environment. Based on reading the article, what are the three criteria used to identify POs: (stop and let people talk within their small group and then click to identify the criteria on the slide. 1) Endurance - Will this objective provide students with knowledge and skills that will be of value beyond a single test date? 2) Leverage -Will this objective provide knowledge and skills that will be of value in multiple disciplines? 3) Readiness- Will this objective provide knowledge and skills that are required for the next level of learning? P.O. are the objectives that we want to ensure we teach in depth. We will look at special objectives denoted throughout curriculum documents called Power Objectives.
