Central Powers – Germany – Austria-Hungary – Ottoman Empire – Bulgaria Allied Powers – Great Britain – France – Russia – Italy

US involvement – Initially neutral, sold supplies to both sides – German unrestricted submarine war policy Sunk US ships – Great migration of African Americans north to work in defense factories – Central Powers win with US help – Wilson introduced 14 points treaty League of Nations to prevent wars – Not enough power – US did not join

Treaty of Versailles was harsh toward Germany – War guilt clause – Germany solely responsible for war – Must pay billions in reparations (damages) – Limits size of Germany – Cannot manufacture war materials – Lost all overseas colonies – Poland becomes independent – Alsace Lorraine and Saar Valley taken away
