Writing Checklist When you have done a piece of writing, use this list to check your work.

Capital letters Have you used capital letters for:  beginning sentences  names (e.g. place names, names of people, names of companies)  places  days, months

Punctuation Have you:  used a full stop at the end of sentences?  used question marks at the end of questions?  used speech marks before and after words actually spoken?  begun speech with a capital letter?

Vocabulary Have you:  used some interesting adjectives?  used any similes?  used different words to begin sentences?  used some synonyms for ‘said’ (e.g. shouted, whispered, mumbled) ?  used connectives like because, but, so, however in the middle of sentences?
